Arm Lift
Reshaping the upper arms after weight loss or ageing.
Procedure overview
An arm lift, or brachioplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the upper arms, most often needed after significant weight loss or as a result of ageing-related skin laxity.
It's frequently combined with liposuction to further refine the contour of the arm.
The patient pathway
- 01
1st consultation
Skin laxity and fat distribution along the upper arm are assessed to determine the right technique and expected scar length.
- 02
2nd consultation
Incision placement and whether liposuction will be combined are confirmed, along with recovery expectations.
- 03
The procedure
Performed under general or local anaesthesia with sedation, typically 1 to 2 hours.
- 04
Follow-up
A compression garment is worn for several weeks, with review appointments at 1, 6 and 12 weeks.
Questions patients ask
Will there be a visible scar?
Yes, an incision along the inner arm is a necessary part of this procedure, though it's positioned to be as discreet as possible.
Is this only for people who've lost significant weight?
No, it's also suitable for age-related skin laxity, though the extent of correction varies by cause.
How long is recovery?
Most patients return to non-strenuous activity within a week or two, with full recovery over several weeks.
Can this be combined with other procedures?
Yes, it's often combined with liposuction of the arm or performed alongside other body contouring procedures.
