Abdominoplasty
A firmer, flatter abdomen after major body changes.
Procedure overview
Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightens underlying muscles that have separated, commonly after pregnancy or significant weight loss.
It's frequently combined with liposuction to refine the waistline and improve overall contour.
The patient pathway
- 01
1st consultation
Abdominal skin, muscle separation and goals are assessed to determine the right technique and extent of surgery.
- 02

Incision pattern, whether liposuction will be combined, and recovery expectations are explained in detail.
- 03
The procedure
Performed under general anaesthesia, typically 2 to 4 hours, usually with a one to two night stay.
- 04
Follow-up
A compression garment is worn for several weeks, with drains removed within days and review at 1, 6 and 12 weeks.
Questions patients ask
Is this a weight-loss procedure?
No — it removes excess skin and tightens muscle, but is not intended as a method for losing weight.
Will there be a visible scar?
Yes, a lower abdominal scar is a necessary part of this procedure, positioned to be hidden by underwear or swimwear where possible.
How long is recovery?
Most patients need 2 to 3 weeks before returning to non-strenuous work, and 6 weeks before resuming strenuous exercise.
Should I wait until I'm done having children?
Yes, it's generally recommended to complete pregnancies first, as they can affect the result.
