Procedure overview
Breast reduction removes excess breast tissue, fat and skin to relieve the physical strain of overly large breasts — back and neck pain, skin irritation and posture issues are common motivations.
The nipple and areola are typically repositioned to suit the new breast shape, preserving sensation and function wherever possible.
The patient pathway

1st consultation
Breast size, symptoms and goals are reviewed. Health history is assessed to plan the safest approach.

2nd consultation
Expected size reduction, scarring pattern and recovery timeline are explained in detail. Surgery date is confirmed.

The procedure
Performed under general anaesthesia, typically 2 to 3 hours, usually with a one-night stay.

Follow-up
Drains, if used, are removed within days. A support garment is worn for several weeks, with review at 1, 6 and 12 weeks.

In some cases, when symptoms are well documented, partial reimbursement may apply — this is assessed individually during consultation.
Will I lose sensation in the nipple?
Some temporary change in sensation is common; permanent loss is uncommon but discussed as part of informed consent.

Will there be visible scarring?
