Procedure Overview

A simple excision removes a skin lesion — cancerous, precancerous, or otherwise concerning — along with a margin of surrounding tissue, closing the wound directly in a single procedure. This approach suits lesions where the resulting defect can be closed without additional reconstructive technique.

IDEAL FOR

Patients with a skin lesion requiring removal where direct closure is expected to give a good result.

How the treatment works

01

First consultation

The lesion is assessed, along with its size, location and likely closure method.

02

Planning

Expected scar orientation and any biopsy requirements are discussed. Procedure date is confirmed.

03

The procedure

Performed under local anaesthesia, typically 30 to 60 minutes.

04

Recovery & follow-up

Stitches are removed within 1-2 weeks, with pathology results reviewed at follow-up.
